A Fast Inverse Scattering Imaging Method by Applying Virtual Experiments to T-Matrix Scheme

Abstract: As a non-iterative linear inverse scattering imaging method, the linear sampling method (LSM) has the merits of easy implementation and high computational efficiency. In this article, based on the LSM and T-matrix method, we propose a fast method to reconstruct the target medium parameters. First, we use the LSM qualitative imaging method to estimate the contour of the target. Then, the preprocessing information of the LSM is applied to the virtual experiment circles in the framework of T-matrix method. In thi… Show more

“…Interestingly, when r p = (0, 0), the only term which survives in the expression (12) is the one for m = 0 as the J m (0) = 0 for m ̸ = 0. Then, the VE total field induced in the cylinder is exactly a Bessel function of zero order apart from the constant b 0 .…”

“…Then, such a relevant conditioning can be conveniently exploited to introduce new inversion strategies. Some inversion approaches are discussed in [8]- [12] and rely on the design of VEs enforcing circular symmetric contrast sources for a set of points, called pivot points, through the solution of the far field equation (FFE) [13]. VE based inversion approaches show a great capability in imaging targets which do not belong to the so-called weak scattering approximations based on Born approximation (BA) [14], while addressing the problem in a simple, effective and computationally efficient way.…”

“…In 2020, Gan et al [12] proposed an improved T-matrix method that uses a genetic algorithm to optimise the truncation and assignment parameters before the start of iteration. In the same year, they proposed a fast algorithm [13] that applies qualitative results from the linear sampling method to the virtual experiment circles in the framework of the T-matrix method, transforming the parameter inversion into solving a series of univariate equations, thus significantly improving the imaging efficiency. In 2021, an alternating parameter update method (APUM) was proposed [14], which alternately updates the contrast of DIE scatterers and the T-matrix of PEC scatterers.…”
