A Family of New Generation Miniaturized Impedance Analyzers for Technical Object Diagnostics

Abstract: The paper presents the family of three analyzers allowing to measure impedance in the range of 10 Ω<|Z x |<10 GΩ in a wide frequency range from 10 mHz up to 100 kHz. The most important features of the analyzer family are: miniaturization, low power consumption, low production cost, telemetric controlling and the use of an impedance measurement method based on digital signal processing (DSP). The miniaturization and other above-mentioned features of the analyzers were obtained thanks to the use of the newest ge… Show more

“…Analog Devices propose to eliminate this error by the calibration [1,16]. Another proposal of how to deal with this problem is presented in a measurement circuit developed by Hoja and Lentka who used two AD5933 ICs in a new configuration different from the one recommended in the manufacturer's application note [12,13], where a simultaneous measurement of the voltage and current eliminates a need of the calibration cycle and removes the systematic error. We tried to analyze the factors on which this error depends and to compensate it mathematically.…”

“…An application of the AD5933 IC in biological diagnostics research has been reported by other authors. The AD5933 IC was used in the cell culture growth monitoring [2,3], single cell measurement [4], blood coagulation detection [5], biosensor applications [6], general bioimpedance measurements [7][8][9][10][11], and was also used in technical object monitoring [12,13]. It should be noted however, that in order to obtain the complete information about electrical properties of a measured object and to use a convenient method of the impedance spectra analysis (equivalent circuit modelling) the impedance has to be measured in a wide range of frequencies [14].…”

“…Impedance analyser designs use either custom circuits [15] or application-specific integrated circuits (ICs), such as AD5833 [16]. In our case, since we need to study the effect of ADC resolution, we designed a simple specific circuit with monolithic ADC and DAC ICs.…”

“…The applications of impedance measurements in electrochemistry and the related field of corrosion monitoring [26,[41][42][43] require a particularly wide range of operating frequency, which is achieved by the same approach-microprocessor-controlled division of clock frequency [41,42].…”
