A Facile Strategy to Enhance the Dielectric and Mechanical Properties of MWCNTs/PVDF Composites with the Aid of MMA-co-GMA Copolymer

Abstract: A facile strategy is adopted to prepare carboxylic functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotube (c-MWCNT) modified high dielectric constant (high-k) poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) composites with the aid of methyl methacrylate-co-glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (MG). The MG is miscible with PVDF and the epoxy groups of the copolymer can react with the carboxylic groups of c-MWCNT, which induce the uniform dispersion of c-MWCNT and a form insulator layer on the surface of c-MWCNT. The c-MWCNTs/MG/PVDF composite… Show more

“…The weight loss of pristine MWCNTs at 800° C owing to the thermal decomposition of the carboxyl and hydroxyl groups on MWCNTs at high temperatures is about 4.7 wt%. 48 Pristine PANI and PANI/MWCNT composites have a weight loss of about 4.5 wt% at room temperature due to moisture loss in the composite system during the 10 min isothermal treatment at the beginning of the measurement. The weight losses up to around 300 °C are due to the loss of water and volatile components.…”

“…The increase in the AC conductivity is about 8 order of magnitude which indicates that the percolation threshold is between p-MWCNTs weight fraction of 0.5 and 1 wt%. When the p-MWCNTs weight fraction is above the percolation threshold, the nanotubes interconnected and formed the conductive pathways, and the leakage current is responsible for the increase in the AC conductance [ 54 ]. Thus, the addition of 1% p-MWCNTs into the PMMA matrix is sufficient to obtain nanocomposites requiring electrical discharge.…”

“…To meet the application requirements for electronic products, some llers with excellent electrochemical properties, such as graphene (GP), [9][10][11][12] carbon nanotube, 13,14 ceramic (BaTiO 3 , PZT), [15][16][17] metal (Au, Cu), 18,19 metal oxide (ZnO), 20,21 had been chosen and added into PVDF matrix, and PVDF based composites with relatively higher dielectric constant were achieved. Among these llers, GP, a new type of twodimensional carbon nanomaterial with superior mechanical properties, high efficiency electron transfer capability and high thermal conductivity, 22,23 has been of interests recent years.…”
