A facile Pechini sol–gel synthesis of TiO2/Zn2TiO2/ZnO/C nanocomposite: an efficient catalyst for the photocatalytic degradation of Orange G textile dye

Abstract: We have developed an efficient route for the synthesis of TiO 2 /Zn 2 TiO 2 /ZnO/C nanocomposites through a Pechini sol-gel method followed by heat treatment at 550 C for 30 min. sunlight and UV irradiation, respectively. The results also showed the stability and reusability of the asprepared nanocomposite and its applicability for the removal of OG textile dye from aqueous media.

“…The calculated photocatalytic reaction rate constant values are compiled in Table 1. These values are in good agreement with those reported in the recent literature for similar reaction conditions [39][40][41][42][43]. The k R value was initially increased with the C 60 loading of the photocatalysts approaching its maximum over the 3C 60 /MCM41 sample.…”

“…In order to further study decolorization through the photocatalytic splitting of azo-bonds, we determined the rate constants (k R ) of photocatalytic reaction for the samples studied. Assuming that the concentration of O 2 in the reaction mixture remains constant and equal to saturation due to the continuous feed with air, a pseudo-first-order photoreaction with respect to the Orange G (Equation 3) could be easily derived [10,39,40].…”

“…So many effects have been made to narrow its band gap and slow its electron-hole pair recombination, such as doping with metals ions, 18 non-metal ions, 19 anchoring with porphyrins and coupling with other semiconductors. 20,21 Furthermore, many researchers have made effects to prepare ZnO composite materials, which possess high specic surface area and have excellent photocatalytic activity. 22 Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), as a kind of MOFs, has high specic surface area, excellent thermal and chemical stability.…”
