A facile novel synthesis of AgCuO2 delafossite nanoparticles and evaluation of their antimicrobial activity

Abstract: Bi-functional nano-oxides are of growing interest to address environmental issues. In the present study, the structural and magnetic data are presented together with the antimicrobial activities (AMA). For the first time, silver delafossite oxide (AgCuO2) is successfully fabricated using a simple, low-cost technique to target antibiotic photodegradation and inactivation of model waterborne pathogens. It is prepared with an equimolar initial Ag+:Cu+ concentration ratio. The structure, morphology, and magnetic p… Show more

“…The other two peaks at 936.7 eV and 956.6 eV are related to Cu (II) 2p 3/2 and 2p 1/2 , respectively. Three satellite peaks are detected; the peaks at 940.7 eV and 943.8 eV correspond to Cu 2+ 2p 3/2 , and the other one at 961.7 eV corresponds to Cu 2+ 2p 1/2 , as shown in figure 7(e) [46,47]. ) is caused by the adsorbed oxygen element during sample synthesis [48].…”

“…21 A few reports in the literature cite the development of nanoparticles as antimicrobials against gonococci, namely chitosan nanoparticles, 22 silver nanoclusters, 23 and recently silver delafossite oxide (AgCuO 2 ) nanoparticles synthesized using the citrate combustion method. 24 Copper itself is already known as an antimicrobial against the gonococcus. 25 However, there are no reports of the antigonococcal activity of biogenic copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs).…”
