A facile green and one-pot synthesis of grape seed-derived carbon quantum dots as a fluorescence probe for Cu(ii) and ascorbic acid

Abstract: In this study, an on–off–on fluorescence probe for the detection of trace Cu(ii) and ascorbic acid (AA) based on biomass-derived sulfur and nitrogen double heteroatom-doped carbon dots (N,S-CDs) was designed.

“…However, long-term excess ascorbic acid can cause diarrhea, nausea, stomach cramps and other symptoms. Using grape seeds and thiourea as starting materials, Zhu Xiashi et al prepared an on-off-on fluorescence probe (N, S-CDs) to simultaneously detect Cu 2+ and ascorbic acid [67]. The surface of N, S-CDs was rich in nitrogen and sulfur functional groups according to the results of FTIR and XPS.…”

“…Over the last few decades, some methods and strategies for monitoring pH, which include titration, electrochemistry, absorbance spectroscopy, etc., [ 13–21 ] have been reported. Among these methods, fluorescent probes have become highly promising as detection methods in biological research and clinical diagnosis due to their various advantages such as high fluorescence response, simple operation, superior sensitivity, and selectivity.…”

“…[6,7] Different diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and metabolic diseases are frequently related to abnormal pH values; [8][9][10] therefore, detecting intracellular pH is essential to understanding the effect of H + on biological systems. [11,12] Over the last few decades, some methods and strategies for monitoring pH, which include titration, electrochemistry, absorbance spectroscopy, etc., [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21] have been reported. “…This "on-off-on" type of sensor could be used to detect two or more components. At present, many reports were about the sequential detection of Cu 2+ / Fe 3+ and AA [27][28][29][30][31] .…”
