Abstract:A existência de estrelas de nêutrons foi conjecturada pouco tempo após a descoberta dessas partículas, e logo tornou-se claro que a física newtoniana era inadequada para se estudar tais estrelas. O problema foi inicialmente abordado por Richard C. Tolman, cujos resultados foram utilizados por J. Robert Oppenheimer e George M.
