A Dynamic Simulation Model for a Heat Exchanger Malfunction Monitoring

Abstract: Modelling and simulation is presented for a finned cross-flow heat exchanger with the aim to heat cold air to be fed to air conditioning batteries for marine purposes. The model employed in this paper is finalized to simulate the dynamic behavior of air and water temperatures fed to the air conditioning batteries operating in cold environments, in order to predict possible troubles owing to the change in input parameters, such as unwanted flow rate variations due to system malfunctions. In the investigated mod… Show more

“…There is a wealth of literature on the modeling of heat exchangers in hydraulic applications, e.g., [33][34][35][36][37]. In line with our application in an optimization context as well as our modeling principles (see Section 3.2) that require the model to be highly flexible, expandable with low complexity, and thus with little effort for parameter identification, we model the plate heat exchanger as a series of cells in each fluid path.…”

“…Guo et al [34] applied digital twins to factory design and proposed a modular approach to help build the digital twins model for a flexible factory in the design stage, enabling engineers to quickly evaluate the results to avoid defects and thus improve the feasibility of the design. Damiani et al [35] built the virtual simulation models using AnyLogic software and simulation technology, which provided an application of digital twins for the optimization design of the production line. Leng et al [36] verified the implementation effect of the design scheme of a large-scale automated high-rise warehouse with the help of the data analysis module of the simulation engine and the optimization algorithm of the digital twins system.…”
