A dynamic model and performance analysis of a stepped rotary flow control valve

Abstract: The hydraulic independent metering is an advanced actuator driving technique that allows the implementation of advanced control algorithms or methods. The main concept of independent metering is to control hydraulic actuators ports, which are the meter-in and meter-out, separately. In this article, a novel stepped rotary type valve has been developed for embedding in hydraulic independent metering systems, instead of conventional types such as poppet and spool. The insertion leads to developing different and n… Show more

“…Actuators made from piezoelectric materials [34][35][36][37], magnetostrictive materials [38][39][40], or shape memory alloys [41,42] provide different ideas for valve actuators. Nevertheless, novel form actuators designed by voice coil actuators [43,44], a stepping motor [45,46], and magnetorheological (MR) fluid [47] are booming with the development of Industry 4.0 [1]. Christophe Habegger et al developed a new generation of electromechanic valve actuation technology with brushless digital current (BLDC) motors [46].…”

“…34 Based on this review, it is obvious that the current trend of research and development is to introduce new control methods or techniques, which reduces some shortcomings using the traditional types of control valves. At the same time, there is a new trend to use rotary type valves similar with the one shown in Figure 1 (for more information see other works [35][36][37] ). This valve can be used to develop a programmable configuration of the IM system.…”

“…Therefore, it is being increasingly applied to engineering problems. Some hydraulic pressure drove the main core, and the spiral groove was used to generate a pressure difference in the valve cavity to act as the driving force in [3], which is a rotary valve that could achieve large flow control, laying the foundation for future valve development. For the rotary valve [4] used in the hydraulic power assist system of automobile rudder, the core was round-toothed, and the core and valve sleeve were processed with symmetrical radial oil through holes whose symmetrical structure made the radial force on the valve core balanced.…”
