A dynamic load dispersion algorithm for load-balancing in a heterogeneous grid system

Abstract: The ever changing demands on computational resources has information systems managers looking for solutions that are more flexible. Using a "bigger box" that has more and faster processors and permanent storage or more random access memory (RAM) is not a viable solution as the system usage patterns vary. In order for a system to handle the peak load adequately, it will go underutilized much of the time. A grid based distributed system can solve this problem by allowing multiple independent jobs to run over a n… Show more

“…There are several inspiring load balancing approaches which have presented interesting results. Some of them are proposed for distributed systems [8], grid [9], [10], P2P systems [11], [12], and also for cloud computing systems [13], [14], and heterogeneous computing systems [15], [16], [17]. The main idea behind the considered challenge is the effective method for task assignment.…”

“…In other works, authors proposed to transmit a constant number of loads [10,11] to balance the system. To carry the loads in a distributed system, the authors have used in [12,13] a mobile agent, which migrate the loads from overloaded nodes to under loaded ones and considering that nodes are homogeneous. In this paper, our approach is to present, first, the parallel virtual machine model where we have implemented the proposed load balancing algorithm.…”

“…al. [9] proposed a control protocol to obtain neighbor nodes information by periodically query and store the information of its neighboring nodes to assist in formulating the job distribution decision. Information that are stored at one node increase along with the size of the system which cause the increase of communication overheads during information exchange.…”
