A Dual Mind Approach to Understanding the Conscious Self and Its Treatment

Abstract: In this paper I will address questions about will, agency, choice, consciousness, relevant brain regions, impacts of disorders, and their therapeutics, and I will do this by referring to my theory, Dual-brain Psychology, which posits that within most of us there exist two mental agencies with different experiences, wills, choices, and behaviors. Each of these agencies is associated as a trait with one brain hemisphere (either left or right) and its composite regions. One of these agencies is more adversely aff… Show more

“… 13 , 18 Case reports have shown DBP to be a very effective adjunct to in-depth psychotherapy for the treatment of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and addiction. 8 , 25 , 75 The fact that we have used HEV clinically and experimentally for several years with consistent results hopefully will encourage other groups to become interested in this novel finding that raises many interesting questions worthy of deep exploration.…”

“…Reviews of this literature emphasize that biophotomodulation increases blood flow, ATP production, brain neurotropic factors, and decreases inflammation (Cassano et al, 2016 ; Hamblin, 2016 ), but none of these facts explain the rapid onset of our UtPBM treatment effects. I have suggested that the LED-emitted transcranial photons may have quantum effects related to endogenous biophoton stimulation and interactions with a hypothesized fundamental quantum subjective field (Schiffer, 2019 , 2021a ), but this hypothesis has not yet been testable.…”

“…We consider this an important discovery which we hope will lead to studies into the processes involved. Schiffer has speculated that tPBM might affect the brain biophoton information and thereby impact subjective experiences (70,71), but this hypothesis is just speculative and will require creative testing.…”
