A dual-band folded shorted patch antenna

Abstract: IntroductionAs is well known, a dual-band antenna is better than a wideband antenna if both of them are required to cover two frequency bands that are far away from each other. Consequently, the researches on dual-band shorted patch antennas are increasing dramatically. In the literature, several methods have been reported to develop this type of antenna. They involved cutting a special slot [1] and using a stacked structure [2] on the traditional quarter-wave shorted patch antenna. Although the new antenna ha… Show more

“…RFID systems at UHF and ISM bands have become more attractive due to the suitability for long-range applications. Lots of research effort has been devoted to the dual-band antenna designs [3][4][5][6][7] since it is always advantageous for the reader antenna to cover as much frequency as possible. In [7], a marquise-brilliantdiamond-shaped patch antenna was proposed.…”

“…Among them, feeding using a coaxial connector is most common because it can be placed at any desired location inside the antenna in order to match with its input impedance. To reduce the size of the antenna while achieving dual band and wide bandwidth, the L-probe [1], T-probe [2], a combination of both these probes [3], folded patch feeding [4] and the PIFA [5] have been realised to encompass the advantages of coaxial connection. Although the folded patch feed and the PIFA provide good impedance bandwidth, they are quite difficult to fabricate with accuracy owing to their complex structure.…”
