A Drug-Induced Acute Pancreatitis Retrospective Study

Abstract: Background and Aims. Drugs are considered a relatively rare and understudied cause of acute pancreatitis (AP). The lack of convincing and conclusive data on drug-induced AP (DIAP) complicates the diagnosis as well as the identification of the causative drug. The aim of this study is to document causes of DIAP cases that occurred in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean (SLSJ) population. Methods. We have conducted a retrospective and descriptive population-based study of DIAP cases that occurred between 2006 and 2014 in… Show more

“…Compared to the Western countries, DIP has been considered a relatively rare disease in Korea, but recently several cases of DIP were reported in Korea, and the frequency of occurrence is steadily increasing [2]. However, DIP induced by 5-FU has been reported very rarely as a case report, and there was only one case, which was confirmed by rechallenge with 5-FU [3].…”

“…Diuretics and azothiopurine cause direct ischemia, while hormones such as steroids and estrogen cause vascular thrombosis or ischemic pancreatitis by decreasing the viskosity of the pancreatic juice. Toxic metabolites of drugs such as valproic acid and tetracycline may accumulate in the pancreas and cause pancreatitis [2,26,27].…”
