A Distributed Control Strategy for Islanded Single-Phase Microgrids with Hybrid Energy Storage Systems Based on Power Line Signaling

Abstract: Energy management control is essential to microgrids (MGs), especially to single-phase ones. To handle the variety of distributed generators (DGs) that can be found in a MG, e.g., renewable energy sources (RESs) and energy storage systems (ESSs), a coordinated power regulation is required. The latter are generally battery-based systems whose lifetime is directly related to charge/discharge processes, whereas the most common RESs in a MG are photovoltaic (PV) units. Hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) extend b… Show more

“…To size the developed system a multi-objective-based genetic algorithm was utilized. By utilizing power line signalling (PLS), coordination of a single-phase MG was assessed by Quintana-Barcia et al (2018). The strategy keeps batteries from overcharging and reduces the power contribution of the RESs to the microgrid.…”

“…In such cases, for secondary frequency control (automatic control), the no-load frequency in the drop method must be increased. The controller used is usually a proportionalintegral (PI) controller [17][18][19][20]. In reference [21][22][23], a fuzzy controller is used to improve frequency control.…”

“…For example, in [21] is proposed a microgrid centralized energy management system with an operation in stand-alone mode that analyzes the static behavior. Other approaches work with a distributed control strategy based on power line signaling used for energy storage systems [22]. Some applications of the MAS technique for distributed economic problems are found in [23], whose contribution was to consider the delays of the communication system.…”
