A diagnostic tool for basic daily quality assurance of a tomotherapy Hi•Art machine

Abstract: To investigate and evaluate the use of an in‐house developed diagnostic software tool using the imaging detector data for a quick daily quality assurance check of the output (dose) and lateral profile (cone) of a tomotherapy Hi•Art system. The Hi•Art treatment system is a radiation therapy machine for delivering intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) in a helical fashion with an integrated CT scanner used for improved patient positioning before treatment. Since the system was developed specifically for I… Show more

“…Both methods for retrieving the sinogram data are time consuming and impractical, and therefore these methods cannot be applied in an online fashion unless a robust and reliable method for automatically retrieving sinograms is established, similarly to that developed and reported by other groups. 22 This method uses the exit detector sinograms from the first fraction as the reference against which other fractions are compared. Ideally, the reference sinogram should be determined during treatment planning using the CT simulation scan.…”

“…During these 200 RotVar procedures, MVCT detector data are recorded on all channels. The stability of the shape of this flattening filter‐free lateral profile is a good surrogate for beam energy stability, and has been used by other investigators for this purpose. A sample of this profile data for SN 04 is shown in Fig.…”

“…10 The CT detector array reads the exit radiation as it passes through the phantom and couch. The detector is synchronized with the linac beam pulses and therefore data are recorded at every 3.3 ms. 11 For measurements of the leaf open time threshold, the DMG was positioned at the depth of 1.5 cm and SDD of 85 cm. The gantry was set to 0°and the DMG was positioned within the trajectory of the center leaf ͑leaf 32͒.…”
