Identification of 7α-hydroxylated androgens as the metabolites of androstenedione by testicular microsomal fraction of rats

“…On the other hand, the 6/3-hydroxylase (Tamaoki and Shikita, 1966), 15a-hydroxylase (Neher and Wettstein, 1960), 16a-hydroxylase (Oshima et al, 1967), 17a-hydroxylase (Shikita et al, 1964), 19-hydroxylase (Oh and Tamaoki, 1970), and 21-hydroxylase (Dominguez et al, 1960) were also reported to exist in the testicular tissues. 7a-Hydroxylated products of testosterone (Conney and Klutch, 1963;Gustafsson et al, 1968;Jagarinec et al, 1967), dehydroepiandrosterone (Sulcová and Stárka, 1968;Stárka, 1965), androstenedione (Gold and Garren, 1964), and pregnenolone (Stárka et al, 1966) were obtained by incubation with microsomal fraction of the liver. It was observed by Heinrichs et al (1967) that the hepatic 7a-hydroxylase activities of rat and rabbit were uniformly distributed between the roughand smooth-surfaced microsomal subfractions.…”
