A development of Kronberg's model for {1012} twins in H.C.P. metals. Extension to {1122} twins

Abstract: The movement of atoms during twinning is described as a simple relative movement and not by means of a shear parallel to the twin plane, even with added "shuffles". It is shown that displacive waves similar to those which describe the p + w transformation, can be associated with these atom movements.Le mouvement des atomes au cours du maclage n'est pas dkcrit ici par un cisaillement parall6le au plan de macle associk kventuellement B des "shuffles", mais par un mouvement relatif simple des atomes. “…Kronberg, Lann and Dubertret [83,84] propose synchroshear for (1012) twinning: here this is augmented by a specific TM mechanism. The correlation with step height is essentially a proof of the earlier proposal [83,84]. The component k vectors associated with synchroshear would be those shown in Figure 2(c).…”

“…Obviously, there would be a barrier to this dissociation, and it may not be likely. A more plausible mechanism is that the defect moves by synchroshear [82][83][84]. Kronberg, Lann and Dubertret [83,84] propose synchroshear for (1012) twinning: here this is augmented by a specific TM mechanism.…”

“…In 1980, Dubertret and Le Lann proposed models of twinning in hcp metals [152,153] that were cited by Wang et al [137] as references for the concept of shuffling. These models were nearly forgotten, despite or because of the huge amount of literature on deformation twinning.…”
