Resumo. Na área cárstica da Serra da Bodoquena ocorrem cavernas inundadas e submersas, além de cavernas secas, que abrigam uma fauna troglóbia importante. Cinco espécies de siluriformes trogló-bios são atualmente conhecidas nesta região: Ancistrus formoso (Loricariidae), Trichomycterus dali (Trichomycteridae) e três espécies ainda não descritas, Ancistrus sp. (Loricariidae), Rhamdia sp. (Heptapteridae) e Trichomycterus cf. dali. Considerando que a compreensão dos padrões ecológicos, biológicos e biogeográficos é necessária para a elaboração de ações eficazes para a preservação dos ecossitemas subterrâneos, são apresentados os resultados parciais do estudo de populações das três espécies não descritas. A ampliação das áreas de preservação a fim de abrangerem todas as áreas de ocorrência dos peixes troglóbios na Serra da Bodoquena é sugerida. Palavras-chave. In Bodoquena karst area occur large submerged and flooded cave systems, as well as dry caves, which harbor an important troglobitc fauna. Five troglobitic species of Siluriformes are currently known: Ancistrus formoso (Loricariidae), Trichomycterus dali (Trichomycteridae), and three undescribed species, Ancistrus sp. n. (Loricariidae), Rhamdia sp.n. (Heptapteridae) and Trichomycterus cf. dali. Due the need of understanding the ecological, biological and biogeographic processes for the development of effective actions on conserve the subterranean ecosystems, partial results of population studies of the three undescribed species are presented. The expansion of conservation areas in order to cover all the occurrence areas of troglobitic fishes in Bodoquena Plateau is suggested. Keywords. Os sistemas subterrâ-neos (ou hipógeos) compreendem conjuntos interconectados de cavidades, fendas e fraturas na rocha, preenchidos por água e/ou ar, podendo ocupar grandes volumes no interior de maciços rochosos (Palmer, 2007).Os troglóbios são animais que habitam exclusivamente os ecossistemas subterrâneos, sendo, em geral, reconhecidos pela redução até ausência de olhos e de pigmentação melânica (troglomorfismos clássicos). Outras especializações que podem estar presentes nestes animais incluem: baixa densidade populacional, distribuição geográfica restrita, tendência à estratégia de vida do tipo K e baixa tolerância a estresse ambiental (Trajano, 2000). Essas características fazem dos troglóbios animais potencialmente em ameaça de extinção, pois tendem a ser sensíveis às alterações ambientais em seus hábitats e suas populações podem apresentar baixa capacidade de repor indivíduos (Trajano, op. cit.). “…In the Pantanal do Miranda area only one facies of continental carbonates has been recognized (Boggiani and Coimbra 1995): directly overlying quartz sands of the Pantanal Formation (Assine and Soares 2004), some lenses, 100 to 300 m 2 and 1 to 1.5 m thick, of quartz sand rich wackestone, described as sub-rounded fine-grained quartz sand supported by fine calcite matrix, rich in gastropod shells. In the Serra da Bodoquena two facies were recognized (Almeida 1965, Boggiani et al 1999, Sallun Filho et al 2009a: overlying the carbonate basement there is a basal layer of fossiliferous wackestone, described as micritic sediment, rich in fossil gastropods; a top layer of tufas (barrage, stromatolite, cascade types), directly overlying the basal wackestone. This paper presents a sedimentological and stratigraphical study of Quaternary (Middle to Late Pleistocene/ Holocene) continental carbonates outcrops inside Pantanal Basin and its surroundings, especially in Serra da Bodoquena, Pantanal do Miranda and Corumbá/Ladário plateau, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, as well as in Serra das Araras, in the state of Mato Grosso. The aim is to understand the depositional paleoenvironments and analyse climate and tectonic influences in their genesis and evolution. The results show that the deposition of these continental carbonates started in the Middle to Late Pleistocene and have continued, with some interruptions, until the present days. Sedimentary successions were identified in the different areas, without complete correlation. Two sedimentary successions separated by an erosional surface were described in Serra da Bodoquena and Serra das Araras. In Corumbá and Pantanal do Miranda, only one succession was described. These successions were deposited in elongated lakes parallel to fault planes; small lakes, related plains and plateaus; springs related to cliffs produced by faulting; rivers conditioned by topographic variation. The climatic interpretation, without proper temporal resolution, obtained by the stable-isotope composition and stratigraphic interpretation, indicates alternation of dry and wet periods. The Neoproterozoic faults with their neotectonics and the subsidence of the Pantanal Basin, are the major control for carbonated water flow and development of depositional areas, gradually turning plateaus into slight tilted areas, allowing the evolution of depositional systems from lakes to rivers.

The evolution of bat skull has been extensively studied at a broad scale. However, we know little about how phenotypes that evolved in response to selective pressure elsewhere interact with ecological pressures to determine species co-ocurrence in human-modi ed landscapes. Here, we test the in uence of size, diet, and foraging strategy on the skull and jaw shape of 32 co-occurring bat species in an agroecological landscape from southwestern Brazil. We used 2D geometric morphometrics for skull and jaw and phylogenetic comparative methods to integrate morphology, ecology, and phylogeny data. Our results show that closely related species were clustered together in the morphospace. Likewise, ecology and phylogeny in uenced the cranial and jaw shape. Groups with greater phenotypic disparity were animalivores and insectivores. The skull of frugivores and animalivores were larger than that of insectivores and had a common and positive allometric relationship, probably related to olfactory-visual senses. Apparently, coexistence in Stenodermatinae frugivores is possible because they have optimal phenotypes for exploration food resources related to the skull and jaw size. Conversely, insectivores that clustered together in the morphospace had differences in foraging strategy or size.
