Shale stabilization is very significant during drilling to avoid wellbore stability issues. Water based drilling fluid results into shale swelling on contact with shale formation. Different additives are added in the drilling mud which inhibits the shale swelling by stabilizing the charge on the clay surface. Various polymers and different Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) have been proven to be successful shale inhibitors, but their performance can be further improved by using a combination of polymer and DES. This research features a double action P-D (Polymer – Deep Eutectic Solvent|) inhibitor formulated by the combination of Potassium Carbonate based DES and modified oxazoline based polymer and compares its inhibition performance with KCl (Potassium Chloride). Linear Swell meter has been used after compressing the Na-Bt (Sodium bentonite) wafers at 1600 psia and swelling results have been analysed after 24 hours. Moreover, surface tension, d-spacing, and Zeta potential of inhibitors-based samples have been measured to justify and understand the swelling results. The results showed P-D inhibitor showed the best inhibition of 76% with maximum decline of 36% and 73% in Surface tension and Zeta Potential respectively. The double action of P-D inhibitor is associated with its capability to form hydrogen bond and exhibit Vander wall forces with the clay surface altogether.

The underground storage of CO2 (carbon dioxide) in basalt presents an exceptionally promising solution for the effective and permanent sequestration of CO2. This is primarily attributed to its geochemistry and the remarkable presence of reactive basaltic minerals, which play a pivotal role in facilitating the process. However, a significant knowledge gap persists in the current literature regarding comprehensive investigations on the reactivity of basaltic minerals in the context of CO2 sequestration, particularly with respect to different basalt types. To address this gap, a comprehensive investigation was conducted that considered seven distinct types of basalts identified through the use of a TAS (total alkali–silica) diagram. Through a thorough review of the existing literature, seven key factors affecting the reactivity of basaltic minerals were selected, and their impact on mineral reactivity for each basalt type was examined in detail. Based on this analysis, an M.H. reactivity scale was introduced, which establishes a relationship between the reactivity of dominant and reactive minerals in basalt and their potential for carbonation, ranging from low (1) to high (5). The study will help in choosing the most suitable type of basalt for the most promising CO2 sequestration based on the percentage of reactive minerals. Additionally, this study identified gaps in the literature pertaining to enhancing the reactivity of basalt for maximizing its CO2 sequestration potential. As a result, this study serves as an important benchmark for policymakers and researchers seeking to further explore and improve CO2 sequestration in basaltic formations.

Due to its good physical properties and low pressure coefficient, the K75 reservoir is prone to leakage and intrusion of drilling and completion fluids during well construction, resulting in plugging of the borehole throat, which will inevitably affect the injection and recovery capacity of the gas well. In order to ensure the strong injection and production capacity of the K75 reservoir, this paper clarifies the reservoir space damage characteristics under different pressure differences and different entry fluids by establishing physical simulation of the damage, selecting the optimal system of the decongestant, and conducting dynamic flow decongestion experiments, as well as combining with the characterization means of the continuous scanning system of the core and the permeability test of the gas measurement. The test results show that the degree of damage of the same working fluid increases with the increase of differential pressure of repulsion, and the degree of damage of sequential working fluids (drilling fluid, completion fluid, and perforating fluid) is greater than that of drilling fluid damage under the same differential pressure of repulsion. In order to relieve the damage of wellbore working fluids, a set of multifunctional, low-corrosion composite acid system formulas was selected through rock powder, mud cake dissolution experiments, and dynamic flow unblocking experiments; the permeability recovery rate of this acid system after unblocking was more than 90%, which is widely applicable, and it is useful for the acidizing and unblocking practice in similar reservoirs.
