En México el cultivo del tomate es de gran importancia, 70% de los cultivos que se producen bajo condiciones protegidas corresponde al tomate. Por esto es importante realizar un manejo eficiente en la agricultura intensiva para lo que se requieren conocer los factores que condicionan el potencial de producción de los cultivos. El objetivo de éste trabajo fue realizar un análisis de crecimiento de tomate en invernadero. Se desarrollaron dos ciclos de cultivo de tomate durante los años 2011 y 2012. Se eliminaron 4 plantas por semana en las que se determinó el peso fresco y seco de los diferentes órganos. Se realizaron análisis de correlación y de regresión entre los diferentes órganos de la planta de tomate, y una prueba de t-Student entre las variables climáticas de ambos ciclos. Con los datos obtenidos se generaron curvas de crecimiento de los diferentes órganos de la planta. Se encontró que el cultivo de tomate presentó una etapa de crecimiento exponencial y otra lineal. Se demostró que existe una fuerte correlación entre los pesos frescos y secos de los diferentes órganos de la planta (p≤ 0.01), y en las diferentes etapas de crecimiento (p≤ 0.01). También se observó que la generación y acumulación de biomasa por las plantas de tomate se afectó por las condiciones climáticas internas del invernadero, ya que fueron diferentes en ambos ciclos (p≤ 0.05). La información presentada es útil para diferentes factores del cultivo de tomate en invernadero.

Concerns over the long-term sustainability of the food production system and the nutritional content of food from mineral depleted soils have encouraged a policy shift to sustainable agricultural practices where soil health supports nutrition-sensitive agriculture. Interventions at the micro scale have the ability to affect the entire system, forcing an examination at the whole of systems level. Modelling plays an important role in determining the outcomes of policy intervention combinations, particularly when systems are identified as being complex. This study begins with a systems map tracing the nutrient cycling process between natural ecosystem processes and farm practices from the bottom-up within a top-down framework. Soil is at the centre of this approach, expanding links to other influences within the framework in order to understand the relationships between elements in an environmental-agricultural system. Moving to a generic model from a broad conceptual system map is problematic when crop types, plant mineral absorption rates, soil and geographic differences are to be accommodated. Work has been done to develop top-down framework models integrating bottom-up component models, capable of being used in different scenarios. Whether existing models are used or new models are created, this study recommends that an appropriate modelling response require examination of systems and policy interventions both holistically and in detail encompassing situational specifics.

Water utilization by crops, namely tomato, within greenhouses is one of the most significant factors in determining yield. Daily water consumption by tomato plants were calculated, to determine the actual evapotranspiration and transpiration rates, as well as the incorporation measurement of climatic variables and weekly determinations of fresh and dry weights of the plants. Estimations of daily evapotranspiration and transpiration rates by the tomato plants were calculated using multiple regression models. The best models for estimating, both the evapotranspiration and transpiration, had adjusted R 2 values greater than 0.9. Using the multiple obtained regression models it is possible to estimate the water needs of tomato plants under greenhouse conditions from readily available variables. The aim of this study was to generate regression models in order to determine the crop water requirements of greenhouse tomato.
