A decentralized robust model for optimal operation of distribution companies with private microgrids

Abstract: With the integration of microgrids (MGs) in future distribution networks (DNs), it is essential to develop a practical model for the distribution company (DISCO). Optimal operation of MGs is not generally consistent with DISCO, especially when they are operated by private owners. To this end, a decentralized robust model for optimal operation of DISCO with private MGs (PMGs) is proposed in this paper. The objective is to minimize the total operation cost of the system including DN and PMGs through coordinated … Show more

“…In Reference 23, energy management of MMG systems for riding through extreme events is analyzed. A decentralized robust model for optimal energy scheduling of MMG systems connected to a distribution network is proposed in Reference 24. Similarly, in Reference 25 a two‐stage robust framework is proposed to coordinate energy exchange between MMG systems and distribution network in a decentralized manner.…”

“…The energy trading among interconnected MGs was studied in [6], the Nash bargaining theory was adopted to promote energy trading among different MGs and establish a fair benefit‐sharing mechanism. Different from research studies [46] that only focused on the optimisation of MGs, the coordinated operation between DN and MGs was studied in [7–9]. For the collaboration between DN and MGs, a decentralised optimisation model was proposed in [7].…”

“…However, the DN was modelled as a deterministic optimisation. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMMs) based decentralised algorithm was proposed in [9] to optimise DN and MGs independently. However, the uncertainties of RESs in MGs were not considered.…”

“…From another perspective, coordinated operation of ADN and multiple MGs has been envisioned in recent researches by utilizing distributed optimization techniques such as Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) [25][26][27][28], Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition [29], proximal message passing [30], Analytical Target Cascading (ATC) [31][32][33], etc. These algorithms typically decompose the whole problem into several subproblems to distribute computation and reduce data communication [34].…”
