Securing collaborative applications relies heavily on the underlying group key management protocols. Designing these protocols is challenging, especially in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT). Indeed, the presence of heterogeneous and dynamic members within the collaborative groups usually involves resource constrained entities, which require energy-aware protocols to manage frequent arrivals and departures of members. Moreover, both fault tolerance and scalability are sought for sensitive and large collaborative groups. To address these challenges, we propose to enhance our previously proposed protocol (i.e. DBGK) with polynomial computations. In fact, our contribution in this paper, allows additional controllers to be included with no impact on storage cost regarding constrained members. To assess our protocol called DsBGK, we conducted extensive simulations. Results conrmed that DsBGK achieves a better scalability and fault tolerance compared to DBGK. In addition, energy consumption induced by group key rekeying has been reduced.

SummaryDifferent devices with different characteristics form a network to communicate among themselves in Internet of Things (IoT). Thus, IoT is of heterogeneous in nature. Also, Internet plays a major role in IoT. So, issues related to security in Internet become issues of IoT also. Hence, the group and hierarchical management scheme for solving security issues in Internet of Things is proposed in this paper. The devices in the network are formed into groups. One of the devices is selected as a leader of each group. The communication of the devices from each group takes place with the help of the leader of the corresponding group using encrypted key to enhance the security in the network. Blom's key predistribution technique is used to establish secure communication among any nodes of group. The hierarchy is maintained such that the security can be increased further, but the delay is increased as it takes time to encrypt at every level of hierarchy. Hence, the numbers of levels of hierarchy need to be optimized such that delay is balanced. Hence, this algorithm is more suitable for delay‐tolerant applications. The performance of the proposed Algorithm is evaluated and is proved to perform better when compared with the legacy systems like Decentralized Batch‐based Group Key Management Protocol for Mobile Internet of Things (DBGK).

Recently, The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) concept is becoming very popular due to sharing of the data between vehicles and the infrastructure. The sharing of data is very important for enhancing vehicular services, but at the same time makes IoV vulnerable for security and privacy issues. The smart and interconnected vehicles produce sophisticated services for transport authorities, car manufacturers, vehicle owners, and other service providers. IoV are very vulnerable to malicious attacks due to its self‐organizing nature and the open source nature of its implementations. This exposes the smart and interconnected vehicles to a variety of privacy and security threats, such as a remote hijacking or location tracking of vehicles. Thus, the security for IoV environment is critical. Blockchain technology has been recently used for cybersecurity due to the robustness and integrity preserving nature of its design. This review article provides a detailed survey of existing work in the literature to secure IoV through blockchain techniques such as security, privacy, reputation, distributed, decentralized, data sharing, authentication, and trust‐based approaches. The paper presents the detailed discussion and analysis of these blockchain techniques to secure IoV. In addition, we present the gaps and research challenges identified from the existing research works. This provides work directions for future research in blockchain techniques to secure IoV.
