A Data Download Method from RSUs using Fog Computing in Connected Vehicles

Abstract: Communication is important for providing intelligent services in connected vehicles. Vehicles must be able to communicate with different places and exchange information while driving. For service operation, connected vehicles frequently attempt to download large amounts of data. They can request data downloading to a road side unit (RSU), which provides infrastructure for connected vehicles. The RSU is a data bottleneck in a transportation system because data traffic is concentrated on the RSU. Therefore, it i… Show more

“…In complex networks, it is very important to determine the important nodes of information spreading, which can effectively control the spread of viruses in computer networks and diseases in social networks, as well as the spread of rumors, opinions, economic crisis and so on [1]. As we all know that there are many ways to communicate in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) [2][3][4], for example between vehicles and vehicles (V2V), vehicles and infrastructure (V2I), vehicles and pedestrians (V2P), and vehicles and networks (V2N) [5]. In this paper, we focus on vehicle to vehicle transmission, and now we know that with the popularization and development of vehicle Internet technology, the information transmission between vehicles becomes more frequent.…”

“…For data transmissions, the IoV allows Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) communication, etc. The Vehicle-to-X (V2X) communication uses Cellular-based communication technology (e.g., LTE and 5G) and IEEE 802.11 based dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) technology to communicate each other [ 16 , 17 , 18 ]. The IoV data is classified into two categories according to the location of occurrence: on-board data and on-road data.…”

“…As parts of the network, fogs can be routers, switches, servers or mobile stations, and they provide lower delay than cloud computing. Applications such as flow processing, virtual reality/augmented reality, smart traffic control, smart homes and smart cities can benefit from fog computing [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10].…”
