A Data Access Method Considering Power Consumption in Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract: In ad hoc networks, it is effective that each mobile host creates replicas of data items held by other mobile hosts for improving data accessibility. When a mobile host requests a data item (replica) held by another mobile host, it usually uses the shortest path for the data transmission. In this case, mobile hosts at the center of the network relay many data items and consume much power. In this paper, we propose a data access Disconnection method to balance the power consumption among mobile hosts. This meth… Show more

“…A recent survey paper [3] has reported that a method proposed by us [13] seems the best solution among the existing energy-aware replication protocols. In the following, we present data replication and data access methods which we proposed in [12], [13].…”

“…Other works such as [6] and [7] propose energy aware methods but networks include sink node and powered permanent base station. [8] and [9] are energy aware data replication but rely on data access frequencies, on path length and the remaining amount of batteries of mobile hosts along the path whereas our method is independent of how data is accessed.…”
