A crosstalk aware routing algorithm for Benes ONoC

Abstract: Optical network-on-chip (ONoC) has been proposed to provide higher bandwidth and lower power consumption for future multicore systems. However, due to the intrinsic characteristic of optical devices, crosstalk noise is a potential issue for ONoC. The traditional routing algorithms for Benes ONoC have not considered the aspect of crosstalk. In this paper, we build the crosstalk model of the optical switch and analyze the crosstalk noise, signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) and bit-error-rate (BER) for Benes ONoC. Moreo… Show more

“…Furthermore, in [21], OPNET is used to provide a simulation environment for investigating average delay and data packet loss rate in 2D and 3D mesh ONoCs. Moreover, a crosswalk aware routing algorithm for Benes ONoC is proposed in [22]. In another study [23], a 3D Torus ONoC along with an adaptive routing algorithm has been proposed for improving the performance of 3-D ONoCs.…”

“…At router level, the research in [3] indicates that the optical router design has a great influence on SNR performance of ONoC. At network level, researchers propose a crosstalk aware routing algorithm for Benes ONoC to relieve the crosstalk problem [9]. But the algorithms in [9] is proposed for single wavelength ONoC architectures.…”

“…L. Bai, et. al proposed a crosstalk aware routing algorithm to relieve the crosstalk noise problem in Benes ONoCs [105]. In [106] The fundamental limits for the number of WDM channels and power per channel when using building blocks that include silicon waveguides, silicon microring modulators and filters were described by K. Preston, et al in [108].…”
