Introduction: Though the oral health status of workers from different industries was reported in literature, there is little information with regard to spinning mill workers. The aim of this study was to document the oral health status, oral hygiene routine, and frequency of utilization of oral health care services among spinning mill workers in Guntur district. Materials and Methods: 458 spinning mill workers in Guntur district participated in this study. Data on hygiene practices, self-reported dental problems, past dental visits, type and place of availed treatments, and barriers for utilizing dental services were recorded. Oral health status was examined using Simplified Oral Hygiene Index, DMFT index, and Community Periodontal Index. Results: Female participants were found to have better oral hygiene status compared to males, which is partially significant. Similar was the scenario when caries experience was considered. Majority of the study subjects (74%) have a DMFT score of 1–6. There were 86 participants without any coronal caries experience. The mean coronal caries experience was more among older spinning mill workers compared to the younger workers. The difference in DMFT scores between males and females was not significant. Majority of the participants (46.3%) were with CPI score 2, while only 10.2% were observed to have all healthy sextants. 136 subjects (30.15%) demonstrated loss of attachment of some severity. Conclusion: Though the oral hygiene habits reported by the spinning mill workers were fair, oral health care seeking behaviors were found to be less informed. There is a serious need to improve the oral health awareness and care seeking behaviors among these workers.

Background: Workers in the battery factory and phosphate fertilizer industry are exposed to harmful sulfuric acid and metal vapors in manufacturing units. Aims: To describe dental, oral, and general health hazards to underappreciated workers in these industries and factors associated with the occurrence and severity. Methods: Dental and oral conditions of workers in the production lines were determined by using indices for teeth erosion, oral hygiene, and gingival health. Interviews and questionnaires were used to assess the general health problems, habits, oral hygiene practices, years of service, protective and safety measures, etc. Results: Results: Surveys show that 67%–86% of production line workers experience symptoms of tooth sensitivity, dry mouth and nose, dysgeusia, burning/itchy eyes, and abdominal discomfort. They also complain of loss of appetite, fatigue, irritability, and muscle or joint pain. Examinations revealed that nearly all workers had poor hygiene and periodontal problems, with 78% experiencing gum bleeding on probing (33%) and spontaneous bleeding (45%). More than two-thirds (79%) of workers had dental erosion on anterior teeth and occlusal abrasion of the posterior teeth. A dense teeth discoloration on the eroded anterior and tartar deposits was obvious. Conclusions: Overexposure to hazardous vapors generated in the manufacturing processes associated with the unsafe workplace, lack of self-protection, poor personal health care, and inadequate medical services are factors strongly involved in the deterioration of workers’ health.

Introduction: Industrial workers are a well-defined group of a population. They have frequent shifts, low socio-economic status and neglected oral hygiene as they are at risk for health and dental problems. Industrial revolution has provided a lot of scope in employment worldwide for many which has improved the standard of living of many individuals. Health at workplace is considered essential now a days in various countries due to this rapid economic growth and industrial progress. In various industries like acid battery industry, chemical and textile industry, are exposed to hazardous substances and radiations. Studies have also reported a positive association between battery exposures to strong acids and periodontal pockets or gingival bleeding among exposed workers. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to assess the oral health status of lead battery factory workers in Ghaziabad Uttar Pradesh. Material and Method: The "World Health Organization (WHO) oral health assessment form -2013" was used to record the clinical findings. 25 For the diagnosis of dental caries, WHO type III examination was carried out using mouth mirrors and explorers while using adequate illumination. The components of the form used were -General information, Dentition status (crown, root), periodontal status, loss of attachment, dental erosion, and oral mucosal lesions. Results: The mean DMFT scores were (5.72 3.17) females had more number of teeth with gingival bleeding compared to males. It was also found 72.3% of battery factory workers had pocket depth more than 6mm. 51.5% workers in the study had LOA of score 3 (as per WHO proforma) Mean number of teeth affected with erosion was more in males (4.76 4.02) Conclusion: Oral health statuses of factory workers are highly affected due to lead acid used in industries.
