A Critical Review of Factors Affecting Manpower and Equipment Productivity in Tall Building Construction Projects

Abstract: Developing countries have seen an increase in construction of tall buildings in metropolitan cities due to space constraint. The construction of tall buildings in developing countries is undertaken as a combination of manpower and equipment to economize costs. This combination or interface of manpower and equipment, particularly in the basic activities such as concreting, reinforcement, formwork, blockwork, and plastering affects productivity of both the resources. This research aims at studying the factors af… Show more

“…Factors were extracted based on an eigenvalue of !1 and a look at the scree plot (Figure 1). A Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value of 0.754 was obtained for the data which exceeded the threshold of 0.6 signifying that the sample is adequate for factor analysis (Tabachnick and Fidell, 2007;Abisuga et al, 2016;Parthasarathy et al, 2017;Mwelu et al, 2019). Bartlett's test of sphericity was found to be significant (r = 0.000) indicating that the variables are unrelated and suitable for factor analysis (Pallant, 2011).…”

“…Although management-related challenges have continued to recur in CLP studies (Jalal and Shaor, 2019; Muhammad et al. , 2015; Mahamid, 2013; Parthasarathy et al ., 2007; Pornthepkasemsant and Charoenpornpattana, 2019; Thomas and Sudhakumar, 2013), contractors can still bring management flaws under control since they are largely internal causations (Abdelalim et al , 2019; Alaghbari et al. , 2019).…”

“…Aje, Oladinrin and Nwaole (2016) highlighted material availability and labour productivity from a Nigerian study. Parthasarathy, Murugasan and Murugesan (2017) identified supervision as an area of weakness affecting manpower productivity. Issues under inadequate supervision were identified as interfacing of activities, lack of support equipment and lead time, while human factors ranked relatively highest.…”
