Energy accounts for a significant share of carbon emissions, and buildings play a substantial role in this by contributing to both direct and indirect emissions throughout their lifecycle. Enhancing energy efficiency in buildings is a strategy to mitigate these impacts. The main goal of this review is to uncover solutions, trends, and examples of good practices in the field of office buildings. It presents effective cases and a SWOT analysis of LEED, BREEAM, and DGNB certifications, highlighting their contributions to energy efficiency in buildings on an international scale. The paper identifies and outlines similarities and differences between each methodology used to achieve energy efficiency in different buildings and contexts. The findings may allow new ways to improve access and obtain results regarding energy efficiency, thereby supporting building owners and companies in finding more effective solutions. The research highlights the necessity for continual enhancements in these systems, which should involve addressing economic factors, conducting post-occupancy evaluations, and considering lifecycle perspectives. The recommendations encompass standardizing practices, considering costs, conducting regular revisions, managing materials and resources, and incorporating occupancy measures.

This paper aims to examine how sustainable practices in the UK real estate industry are impacted by green investments through qualitative research, focusing on interviews with developers. The findings reveal that regulatory frameworks, market demand, financial incentives, corporate responsibility, and technological innovation are crucial factors in sustainable practices. There is a growing consumer demand for sustainable properties, supported by financial incentives like grants, tax credits, and green finance mechanisms such as green bonds. These bonds play a crucial role in promoting sustainable building practices, including energy‐efficient design and renewable energy integration. The research highlights motivators for stakeholders to participate in sustainability initiatives, including financial benefits, regulatory compliance, reputation, and consumer demand, despite challenges like perceived higher costs and regulatory hurdles. This research highlights specific implications for policymakers to design effective regulatory frameworks and incentives, investors to prioritize green investments through mechanisms like green bonds, and industry professionals to enhance corporate responsibility and meet growing consumer demand for sustainable properties.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the SBToolPT Urban assessment method can be used together to assess the circular economy in the built environment and promote urban sustainability. In this conceptual analysis, the focus is on developing urban sustainability indicators that can help to assess the circular economy in the built environment SBToolPT Urban includes a set of tools that are designed to help to align operations and activities with the SDGs. These indicators should be aligned with the SDGs and the SBToolPT Urban assessment method, which provides a comprehensive framework for assessing sustainability in urban areas. Using these indicators, the SBToolPT Urban can become an assessment method for projects that are wished to be implemented based on the SDGs. Through these indicators, urban areas can be assessed on their sustainability and circular economy performance and opportunities for improvement can be identified as well. This can help to promote sustainability and circular economy in the built environment and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs related interconnected and provide a comprehensive framework for achieving sustainable development and addressing the world's most pressing environmental, social, and economic challenges.
