A credible role of copper oxide on structure of nanocrystalline mesoporous titanium dioxide

Abstract: Copper oxide-titania catalysts with nanocrystalline mesoporous structure were prepared by sol-gel technique using tetra isopropyl ortho titanate (TiPT) as the inorganic precursor and amino-2 ethanol as the swelling agent. Characterization was performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transformed infrared spectra (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), diffuse reflectance UV-Vis spectroscopy (DRS), and N 2 adsorption-desorption measurements. It was found that CuO (0.025-0.1 mol ratio) has some effect… Show more

“…The UV-visible spectra of copper oxide samples exhibit a broad absorption peak in the range of 400-600 nm as shown in figure 2A. The plot of absorbance vs. wavelength shows a shift in the spectra towards longer wavelength as a function of decreasing particle size (quantum size effect), these results are in agreement with those of XRD analysis discussed earlier [35,36]. The Kubelka-Munk method was employed to estimate the theoretical band gap energies of the copper oxide nanoparticles [37].…”

“…One is that the aggregation of smaller crystallites forms smaller pores. The other is that some ions of doping probably insert into the pore of pure TiO 2 , which also causes pore size to become smaller [34]. The specific surface area determined with the BET method is 80.03 m 2 g −1 which is higher than 47.03 m 2 g −1 of TiO 2 sample.…”

“…ZnO thin films are widely used to light-emitting diodes (LED) [4], UV sensors [5,6], solar cells [7,8], surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices and optical wave-guide devices as well [9]. It is well known that ZnO thin films can be prepared by variety of techniques such as sputtering [10,11], laser ablation [12][13][14], chemical vapor deposition [15,16] and sol-gel spin-coating technique [17][18][19][20][21]. Among the above techniques, sol-gel spin-coating technique is relatively appealing and commercially favorable for the preparation of highly-oriented ZnO thin films because of its low cost, well control over the chemical composition of the thin film, the capability of preparing large-size homogeneous thin film and large freedom of choosing dopant as well.…”
