“…The χ 2 for ππ data is 28.7 for 29 degrees of freedom. The Omega collaboration reports a significant contribution from f 0 (1370) to their data on central production of π + π − [30]. Their fitted mass and width agree closely with the line-shape fitted to f 0 (1370) in [5].…”

“…From the Particle Data Group [27], B(J/ψ → γf 0 (1710) → γKK) = (8.5 +1.2 −0.9 ) × 10 −4 . Combining with the WA102 measurements [29]: B(f 0 → ππ)/Γ(f 0 → KK) = 0.20 ± 0.04 and Γ(f 0 → ηη)/Γ(f 0 → KK) = 0.48 ± 0.15 yields B(J/ψ → γf 0 (1710)) ∼ 1.4 × 10 −3 . For f 0 (1500), the BES result B(J/ψ → γf 0 (1500) → γππ) = (6.7 ± 2.8) × 10 −5 [31] together with B(f 0 (1500) → ππ) = 0.349 ± 0.023 [27] gives B(J/ψ → γf 0 (1500)) = (2.9 ± 1.2) × 10 −4 .…”

“…ρ KK s = ρ ππ s , then it is expected that Γ(G → ππ)/Γ(G → KK) = 0.91. Since Γ(f 0 (1710) → ππ)/Γ(f 0 (1710) → KK) is measured to be 0.20 ± 0.04 by WA102 [29], < 0.11 by BES from J/ψ → ω(K + K − , π + π − ) decays [30] and 0.41 +0.11 −0.17 from J/ψ → γ(K + K − , π + π − ) decays [31], 5 this implies a relatively large suppression of ππ production relative to KK in scalar glueball decays if f 0 (1710) is a pure 0 ++ glueball. To explain the large disparity between ππ and KK production in scalar glueball decays, Chanowitz [32] advocated that a pure scalar glueball cannot decay into quark-antiquark in the chiral limit, i.e.…”

“…The absence of f 0 (1710) in our data is therefore compatible with an ss assignment. Recent results in central production 5 show that f 0 (1710) prefers to decay into KK rather than into ππ. This also points to an ss interpretation of the f 0 (1710) and therefore suggests that this meson is the (mainly) ss member of the scalar nonet.…”

“…In the literature the narrow f 0 (1500) and f 0 (1710) compete for being the ground state glueball. Recent data inpp annihilation and in central production show that both the f 0 (1370) and f 0 (1500) couple mainly to pions 4,5 while f 0 (1710) couples mainly to kaons 5 . I will show that f 0 (1710) is dominantly ss.…”
