A Cost Analysis of Internet of Things Sensor Data Storage on Blockchain via Smart Contracts

Abstract: Blockchain is a developing technology that can be utilized for secure data storage and sharing. In this work, we examine the cost of Blockchain-based data storage for constrained Internet of Things (IoT) devices. We had two phases in the study. In the first phase, we stored data retrieved from a temperature/humidity sensor connected to an Ethereum testnet blockchain using smart contracts in two different ways: first, appending the new data to the existing data, storing all sensor data; and second, overwriting … Show more

“…A recent study by Bag et al (2022) revealed that this is particularly associated with the cost of raw materials and alignment of supply chain network. A robust supply chain network that ensures the availability of PSS solutions must be added to the integration of circular goods with expanded functionality and competent services package (Lyons et al, 2020; Peker et al, 2020). By streamlining or simplifying supply chain processes, data analytics help minimise wasteful material flow, which would yield greater financial benefits.…”

“…Another common perception within the literature is related to the role of l4.0 technologies adapted for different roles within a firm [35]. The analysis showcases a positive outcome on the internal infrastructure within a business management context [12], the principal constituent of the business operations model [14,46], and customer relationship management [12,47] when the system is accustomed accordingly.…”

“…The authors also spoke about how the suggested methodology combats this, but the solution is still in its initial stages; therefore, more research must be done on how it will be implemented. Kurt Peker et al 76 investigated the price of storing the gathered data in blockchain for minimal processing and storage power. According to their research, overwriting rather than adding new data is the more economical option.…”
