A correlation of magnetic properties with material density for soft magnetic composite cores

Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships between processing conditions and magnetic properties of cores made of Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) Somaloy 500. Design/methodology/approach – The effects of compaction pressure and hardening temperature may be combined considering SMC density. This quantity may be chosen for optimization of properties of ready-made cores. In order to describe hysteresis loops the phenomenological model based on hyperbolic tangent transformation is appli… Show more

“…It can be stated that as the compaction pressure increased, the material density also increased, which implied better magnetic properties due to a higher packing ratio. The results are consistent with those obtained in Reference [55] for commercial Somaloy. A qualitatively similar dependence (exhibiting saturation after a certain threshold value) was presented in Reference [56].…”

“…From Figure 6 it follows that as the compaction pressure increases, the material density also increases, what implies better magnetic properties due to a higher filling ratio. The results are consistent with those obtained in [42] for commercial Somaloy. A qualitatively similar dependence = ( ) (exhibiting saturation after a certain threshold value) was presented in Ref.…”

“…Figure 6 depicts the dependence density of the developed SMC cores versus the compaction pressure. In the paper [42] it was indicated that the material density might be a proper quantity of direct interest to the designers of magnetic circuits containing SMC materials. From Figure 6 it follows that as the compaction pressure increases, the material density also increases, what implies better magnetic properties due to a higher filling ratio.…”

“…Most research work carried out on SMCs is based on commercially available products like Somaloy from Hö-ganäs [3,10,17]. For these products the processing parameters are relatively high, e.g.…”
