A Coordination Polymer based on Interconnection of Thioantimonate(III) and [Mn(terpy)]2+ Complexes: Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Properties of {[(Mn(terpy))2Sb4S8]·0.5H2O}n

Abstract: Applying Schlippe's salt, Na3SbS4·9H2O, in the presence of the in‐situ formed [Mn(terpy)]2+ complex (terpy = 2,2':6',2''‐terpyridine) the new compound {[(Mn(terpy))2Sb4S8]·0.5H2O}n (I) could be obtained under solvothermal conditions. Interestingly, in the crystal structure the two unique Mn2+ cations adopt different environments to form a MnN3S3 octahedron and a MnN3S2 trigonal pyramid. The trigonal pyramidal SbS33– anions share common edges yielding a Sb8S8 ring. Covalent bonds between Mn2+ and S2– generate M… Show more

“…Using Mn(ClO 4 ) 2 · 6H 2 O and terpy separately, compound I crystallized after 3 h as a pure phase, while prolongation to 7 d led to the appearance of the crystalline side‐phase already observed in the syntheses mentioned above (Figure S1). Recently, we performed solvothermal syntheses with Na 3 SbS 4 · 9H 2 O (Schlippe's salt), Mn(ClO 4 ) 2 · 6H 2 O and terpy and successfully obtained a new compound with composition {[(Mn(terpy)) 2 Sb 4 S 8 ] · 0.5H 2 O} n and a by‐product which could not be identified at this time. For the preparation of this compound 2 mL of H 2 O was added in a glass tube to a mixture of 36.2 mg (0.1 mmol) Mn(ClO 4 ) 2 · 6H 2 O, 46.7 mg (0.2 mmol) terpy and 96.2 mg (0.2 mmol) Na 3 SbS 4 · 9H 2 O ( T = 140°, t = 3 d).…”

“…Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are a type of inorganicorganic hybrid crystalline materials, composed of inorganic metal ions and organic ligands through coordination bonds, intermolecular forces or hydrogen bonds. [1][2][3] MOFs are a good building block and are widely used in the fields of photocatalytic, [4] drug delivery, [5] adsorption, [6] temperature sensors, [7,8] and corrosion protection. [9] Through different metal ions and organic ligands, they can flexibly and conveniently adjust their connection and surface functional groups.…”
