A convenient method for the rapid estimation of carotene in butterfat

Abstract: Summary A simple method is described for determining the carotene content of butterfat under conditions where extreme accuracy is not required. A direct comparison is made of the color of the melted fat with that of known concentrations of potassium dichromate solution. Since there is no loss of fat from dilution or in transferring from one container to another, the method is adaptable to small samples that later can be used for the determination of the usual fat‐constants.
