“…The number of heaters currently in use is not known. The results of previous environmental chamber and field studies indicate that these heaters may produce indoor concentrations of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NO,), sulfur dioxide (S02), and carbon dioxide (C02) in excess of levels specified in a number of health guidelines or standards (2)(3)(4)(5). Little, however, is known about the particle and organic emissions from these heaters.…”

“…EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES B and 3-exo-Cl-B from Chlorination of 2-exo,10-Dichlorobornane. 2-exo,10-Dichlorobornane (52 g) (Richey et al, 1965) containing up to 25% 2-exo,10,10trichlorobornane (Parlar et al, 1976(Parlar et al, ,1977 was dissolved in CC14 (1 L) which was then heated to boiling to drive out 02 and cooled under N2. Chlorine was bubbled into the solution at ~0 °C, the amount added being determined by weight gain.…”

“…A probable precursor for these toxicants is 2-exo,10-dichlorobornane, a major product at an early stage in chlorination of camphene (Jennings and Herschbach, 1965;Richey et al, 1965). This dichlorobornane has been used to prepare trichlorobornanes as models for identification of toxaphene components (Parlar et al, 1977) and to obtain a product from which the mixture of 8-C1-B and 9-C1-B can be isolated by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and preparative gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) (Nelson and Matsumura, 1975). This report gives a procedure for chlorination of 2exo,10-dichlorobornane to prepare B on a gram scale and to obtain 3-exo-Cl-B.…”

“…Low-chlorinated bornane derivatives were analysed by 1 H-and 1 3 C-NMR, MS and IR spectroscopy and the data obtained were compared with those of (6) (Parlar et al, 1977).…”

“…From the given spectroscopic data of the low chlorinated bornane derivatives and of the toxaphene fraction the composition of technical toxaphene can be better resolved. The data can also be of use in the interpretation of compounds iso1ated from toxaphene and of possible chemical, photochemical, and biological conversion products resulting from the toxaphene mixture (Parlar et al 1977}.…”
