A context-aware multimedia service scheduling framework in smart homes

Abstract: Many pervasive services are embedded in smart homes. It is a great challenge to schedule these services due to the heterogeneity and the mobility of devices. In this article, we elaborate a context-aware service scheduling framework (CASSF), which discovers available services hosted on those heterogeneous and mobile devices, selects suitable services that meet task requirements (TR) and ultimately enhances user experience with content adaptation. Contributions of this article are in three folds. First, the dev… Show more

“…For example, the node marked with Q 22 shared posts from BecomeAnEX to encourage people to quit smoking with the assistance of Quit Tea, which is a blend of herbs and spices that helps replace the habit of smoking with drinking herbal tea. 6 The sparse connection between protobacco fan pages may result from the competition in the tobacco industry and the common benefits of fan pages. In the set of keywords, many tobacco brands, such as "Camel," "Lucky Strike," and "Pall Mall" are introduced.…”

“…Chen et al [5] elaborated a knowledge-driven system to detect fine-grained daily activities with radio-frequency identification tags. For elder adults, a smart home prototype was implemented to overcome the barriers due to cognitive decline, particularly memory, hearing, and visual impairment [6], [7]. For urban planning, a number of studies have extracted citywide human mobility patterns using the large-scale data from smart vehicles and mobile phones.…”

“…Mobility and heterogeneity are characteristics of many devices in the SH. In order to manage these devices efficiently, the system CASSF (Context-Aware Service Scheduling Framework) [5] filters out and offers suitable services. This is done according to the task requirements (TR) and serves an improved user experience and content adaptation.…”

“…The research reports in this area have often focused on the private home life and its "electronics" rather than being concentrated on how to innovate management or how to take advantage of big data to deliver and plan health and social care services. The discussion has focused on what kind of state-ofthe-art technology that can be implemented and used in homes of the future to support and facilitate everyday tasks, which kind of platforms that can be used to improve monitoring of people within the home [37][38][39][40][41], the behavioral aspects of individuals when interacting with the technology in use, the number of devices that a system can handle at once and its relationship with time aspects. Studies have also focused on the selection of technological applications and sensors to measure physical activity as well as usefulness and acceptance of the technology in use .…”
