For over a half century, the evolution of rock music has been marked by controversy over its social influence. Arguments by the pro-and anti-regulation/censorship camps echo those encountered in debates over the effects of media violence and pornography generally [1]. The present study reviews empirical work on the content and effects of violence in rock music and music videos. In evaluating whether the research meets the high burden for regulatory intervention, we must first establish (1) whether the content of these popular arts is, in fact, providing an increasingly graphic content environment, and (2) whether such contents actually influence audience attitudes and behaviors. A narrative review of the literature suggests that critics of popular music have needed to "fill in the blanks" of their empirical arguments with selective citations to the voluminous literature on general media effects (e.g., with TV violence). The literature on popular music and music videos provides little in the way of longitudinal, externally valid findings that can establish a "smoking gun" with media influences as potent causal agents with human behavior. Implications for media regulation are discussed.

-This paper builds upon the authors' previous research in which the competency building process of individuals was analyzed in a purely synchronous computer game-based teaching technology. The issue of heterogeneity of speed of adaptation to the learning tool, identified in the synchronous context, is here addressed by introducing the flexibility of an asynchronous format, in which students are given the opportunity to complete the game at their own pace. Experts count game-based teaching amongst the technologies likely to have the largest impact on education over the next five years. Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG) are based on multiple interactions between different humans in virtual worlds. A MMOG teaching game was created in a virtual world. Participant discourses based on written chats were collected and exploited by netnography. Visual data was filmed and analyzed by the semiotics method then compared to the discourse analysis. First results show interesting differences between synchronous and asynchronous modes, in the interaction and collaboration within and across teams.Index Terms -human-computer interactionnetnography -teaching technology -virtual world

Typical examples of sexual content identified in music video research have included provocative dress or dancing and sexual touching, such as caressing oneself or kissing [6][7][8]. However, the coding schemes used in music video research have typically been more adept at identifying overt than covert sexual content, such as makeup or close-ups of attractive faces.The sexual content of music videos has tended to be gender stereotypic. Specifically, women in music videos have often been portrayed as the objects of sexual attention, for the gratification of on or off-screen men [7,9]. The supporting female characters in music videos have often appeared as hypersexual objects without agency, lack a role outside their function as living decor, or have no identifiable personality traits [9]. Unfortunately, researchers have devoted far less attention to stereotypic representations of masculinity in music videos; however, it appears that men have not been sexualized to the same extent as women [10].
