“…The study brings a contribution to the limited empirical research investigating how cases should be taught in engineering ethics education (Yadav et al 2007;Thiel et al 2013;Davis and Yadav 2014). Many of the findings of this study are similar to those in the pilot study (Martin, Conlon, and Bowe 2018) and suggest that the work presented provides a fruitful avenue for educating students about the social context of engineering ethics issues, which should be developed further. Our findings are also consistent with Loui's (2000; claim that students get to consider multiple perspectives when they participate in role-playing exercises and try to reach a satisfying compromise, thus gaining an awareness of the social dimension of engineering decision-making (Lloyd and van de Poel 2008).…”

“…In recent years, case instruction has attracted criticism pointing to its weakness in capturing the dynamics and complexity of the profession (Lynch and Kline 2000;Bucciarelli 2007). Some of the method's minuses that have been set forth point to its weakness on both ontological and epistemological grounds (Martin, Conlon, and Bowe 2018).…”

“…A case study is a suitable vehicle for examining this topic as case studies explore specific real-world phenomena that focus on interpreting events, and exploring the societal context in which the case occurs [9]. The qualitative nature of these cases can be seen as novel when introduced in computer science courses which are typically more quantitative in nature.…”

“…Several investigators consider theoretical and practical approaches and ethical aspects of modern medical practical activity (Bruynseels, de Sio & van den Hoven, 2018). A number of studies are devoted to the use of the constructivist approach in the teaching of engineering ethics Larochelle, Bednarz & Garrison, 1998;https://dx.doi.org/10.15405/epsbs.2018.12.133 Corresponding Author: A.V Shutaleva Selection and peer-review under Jonassen, 1999;Martin, Conlon, & Bowe, 2018). Alkhatib and Abdou devote their research to the problem of ethical dilemmas and conflicts that arise due to unresolved technical and ethical problems.…”
