A Conceptual Architecture for Enabling Future Self-Adaptive Service Systems

Abstract: Dynamic integration methods for unknown data sources and services at system design time are currently primarily driven by technological standards. Hence, little emphasis is being placed on integration methods. However, the combination of heterogeneous data sources and services offered by devices across domains is hard to standardize. In this paper, we will shed light on the interplay of self-adaptive system architectures as well as bottom-up, incremental integration methods relying on formal knowledge bases. A… Show more

“…These differences in technology, organizational culture, and function created a gulf between the OT and IT environments, creating barriers to capitalizing on the potential benefits of OT-IT convergence. However, for the paradigm of the smart factory to be fully realized, such systems need to be implicitly integrated [6].…”

“…The appropriate handling of these behaviors is important to a large scale self-adaptive system like IoT. Common research focuses like new languages [11], evaluation and testing [70], [221], modelling [85], learning [50], [219], [249], recovery [23], uncertainty [246], and integration [44] were seen in this phase. A general review of selfimproving system integration can be found in [26] and industrial experience reports in [161], [250].…”

“…When formalizing the semantics of mappings between data models, a mapping language is required [8]. For example, Burzlaff and Bartelt [17] used a firstorder logic language called OWL-DL. OWL-DL is a formal language with SHOIN expressivity [18].…”

“…7. Desktop-based vs. Web-based User Experience: Although desktop-based integration IDEs may offer more functionality and are more expressive [17], we chose a web-based integration frontend for mapping definition. The main reason for this lies within the overall usability goal of integration tools.…”
