A concept for the modernization of underground mining master maps based on the enrichment of data definitions and spatial database technology

Abstract: Abstract. In this article, topics regarding the technical and legal aspects of creating digital underground mining maps are described. Currently used technologies and solutions for creating, storing and making digital maps accessible are described in the context of the Polish mining industry. Also, some problems with the use of these technologies are identified and described. One of the identified problems is the need to expand the range of mining map data provided by survey departments to other mining departm… Show more

“…Of course, satisfactory results will not be obtained without interdisciplinary cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and experience. Given the emphasis on safety and economics, the emerging spatial models of the workings, supplemented by the infrastructure located therein and integrated with the map of the mine workings in a spatial database environment [23], supplemented by the surrounding geology, may become an important element of the spatial data management processes of the mine site in the future [17].…”

“…The user obtains the geometry of the objects, which does not contain a large number of attributes. Enriching the description of attributes is necessary to increase the functionality of cartographic data (Krawczyk, 2018) The need for taking measures in the context of analysing the quality of shared spatial data, should also be stressed. The participation of local communities, that can verify some of the datasets on-site, in this process would be required.…”

“…In this way, a spatial database was created with 3 spatial data layers that will enable to perform spatial analysis. This type of data organisation forms the core of a more efficient spatial data management in mining [27].…”
