Chinese sacbrood virus (CSBV) is a serious threat to eastern honeybees (Apis cerana), especially larvae. However, the pathological mechanism of this deadly disease remains unclear. Here, we employed mRNA and small RNA (sRNA) transcriptome approach to investigate the microRNAs (miRNAs) and small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) expression changes of A. cerana larvae infected with CSBV under natural condition. We found that serine proteases involved in immune response were down-regulated, while the expression of siRNAs targeted to serine proteases were up-regulated. In addition, CSBV infection also affected the expression of larvae cuticle proteins such as larval cuticle proteins A1A and A3A, resulting in increased susceptibility to CSBV infection. Together, our results provide insights into sRNAs that they are likely to be involved in regulating honeybee immune response.

Social multimedia hosting and sharing websites, such as Flickr, Facebook, Youtube, Picasa, ImageShack and Photobucket, are increasingly popular around the globe. A major trend in the current studies on social multimedia is using the social media sites as a source of huge amount of labeled data for solving large scale computer science problems in computer vision, data mining and multimedia. In this paper, we take a new path to explore the global trends and sentiments that can be drawn by analyzing the sharing patterns of uploaded and downloaded social multimedia. In a sense, each time an image or video is uploaded or viewed, it constitutes an implicit vote for (or against) the subject of the image. This vote carries along with it a rich set of associated data including time and (often) location information. By aggregating such votes across millions of Internet users, we reveal the wisdom that is embedded in social multimedia sites for social science applications such as politics, economics, and marketing. We believe that our work opens a brand new arena for the multimedia research community with a potentially big impact on society and social sciences.

A methodology that is based on epidemiological analysis to assess risk factors and harmonic distortion incidence rate in a distribution network is proposed in this paper. The methodology analyzes the current harmonics emission risk at the PCC due to the connection of disturbing loads. These loads are modeled, and multiple loads connection scenarios are simulated using Monte Carlo Algorithms. From the simulation results, potential risk factors for critical harmonics indicators are identified, leading to a classification of the scenarios into groups of exposed or unexposed to risk factors. Finally, the incidence rate of harmonics is calculated for each load connection scenario and the risk of critical harmonics scenarios due to the exposure to risk factors is estimated.Keywords: Power Quality (PQ); harmonic distortion; risk factors; relative risk (RR).Aproximación epidemiológica para evaluar factores de riesgo e incidencia de distorsión armónica en redes de distribución ResumenEn este artículo se propone una metodología basada en el análisis epidemiológico para evaluar los factores de riesgo y la incidencia de distorsión armónica en una red de distribución. La metodología analiza el riesgo de emisión de corrientes armónicas en el PCC debido a la conexión de cargas perturbadoras. Dichas cargas se modelan y múltiples escenarios de conexión de cargas se simulan usando algoritmos de Monte Carlo. Posteriormente de las simulaciones se identifican los potenciales factores de riesgo para indicadores críticos de armónicos. Esto Permite clasificar los escenarios en grupos de expuestos y no expuestos a factores de riesgo. Finalmente, se calcula la tasa de incidencia de armónicos para cada escenario de conexión de carga y se estima el riesgo de escenarios críticos de armónicos debido a la exposición al factor de riesgo.Palabras clave: Calidad de potencia; distorsión armónica; factores de riesgo, riesgo relativo.
