Abstract:PURPOSE Thyroid peroxidase (TPO) is essential for the synthesis of thyroid hormones. However, specific mutations render TPO antigenic and prone to autoimmune attacks leading to thyroid cancer, TPO deficiency, and congenital hypothyroidism (CH).
