A computational and an experimental study on the effect of the chimney height on the thermal characteristics of a solar chimney power plant

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to highlight the impact of the chimney height on the local characteristics of the air flow within a solar chimney power plant. The solar chimney power plant prototype was numerically and experimentally investigated. The experimental prototype of the solar chimney power plant was built in the National School of Engineers of Sfax, University of Sfax, Tunisia in the North Africa. The prototype is characterized by a collector diameter equal to D ¼ 2750 mm, a collector height equal to h ¼ 5… Show more

“…In their study, authors established a mathematical model of the inclined collector roof. Ayadi et al stated experimental and numerical investigation to present the consequence of varying the chimney height on the performance of an existing SCPP. Researchers discussed the characteristics of the air flow characteristics of temperature, velocity, pressure, and turbulence.…”

“…The system is characterized by a chimney height equal to 9 m, chimney diameter equal to 0.31 m, and a collector with an approximate area of 12.5 m 2 . Ayadi et al developed a prototype of a solar chimney at the National School of Engineers of Sfax (ENIS). Ayadi et al compared a convergent collector roof, a divergent collector roof, and a conventional collector roof of a solar chimney power plant.…”

“…In their work, the collector roof angle was varied and the air characteristics within the setup were presented for each case. In another work, Ayadi et al presented a computational and an experimental study on the effect of the chimney height on the thermal characteristics of a solar chimney power plant. As a result, they noted that the increase of the chimney height causes the increase in the generated power.…”
