A COMPREHENSIVE VIEW OF A STRONGLY LENSEDPLANCK-ASSOCIATED SUBMILLIMETER GALAXY

Abstract: We present high-resolution maps of stars, dust, and molecular gas in a strongly lensed submillimeter galaxy (SMG) at z = 3.259. HATLAS J114637.9−001132 is selected from the Herschel-Astrophysical Terahertz Large Area Survey (H-ATLAS) as a strong lens candidate mainly based on its unusually high 500 μm flux density (∼300 mJy). It is the only high-redshift Planck detection in the 130 deg 2 H-ATLAS Phase-I area. Keck Adaptive Optics images reveal a quadruply imaged galaxy in the K band while the Submillimeter Arr… Show more

“…Fu et al (2012) showed that HATLAS J114637.9-001132 (HerBS-2) is a strongly lensed sub-mm galaxy, with a magnification between 7 to 17. Cox et al (2011) and Bussmann et al (2012) found that HATLAS J142413.9+022303 (HerBS-13) is a lensed sub-mm galaxy, with a magnification of 4.…”

“…"wet") merger (Riechers et al, 2011b) and the molecular gas properties show at least a two-phase medium with with T kin ∼ 100K and n gas ∼ 10 3 cm −3 gas combined with very dense gas at T kin ∼ 200K and n gas ∼ 10 5 cm −3 ). Another example is H-ATLAS J11460011 (Fu et al, 2012a) with S 500 ∼ 300 mJy. The source is lensed by four galaxies in the foreground providing differential magnification factors of 17, 8 and 7 for near-IR (stars), submm (dust), and radio (gas traced by CO) wavelengths.…”

“…Our method is complementary to that employed by Fu et al (2012), where they forward-model a single submm source through the gravitational lens, allowing the position to vary, to reproduce the observed morphology of their Submillimeter Array (SMA) and Very Large Array observations. With their model, they were able to show that the source of the gas and dust emission was offset from the optical counterpart.…”
