In this work, carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were utilized as efficient adsorbents for pantoprazole (PP) removal. We used MWCNTs that were synthesized using the chemical vapor deposition process. The physical characteristics of MWCNTs were described by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) contact area, surface functional group analysis by the point of zero charge (pHPZC), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis, Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The single-point BET surface area of the MWCNTs was found to be 98.7 m 2 g -1 , with the median pores' diameter of 30.9 nm and an average pore(s) volume of 0.764 cm 3 g -1 . Effective parameters on the PP removal including, pH, contact time and initial amount of adsorbents were optimized, revealing maximum PP removal at pH=6.0 after 25.0 min when 0.026 g MWCNTs. The pseudo second-order kinetic model for adsorption of PP on the surface of both adsorbents revealed the high value of correlation coefficient, indicating the high ability of the pseudo second-order model for representation of experimental results. Adsorption equilibrium studies indicated that the Freundlich isotherm efficiently represented MWCNTs adsorption data. The thermodynamic parameters (Gebbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy) of adsorption process were calculated. Results had shown that adsorption of PP on the MWCNTs is feasible, spontaneous, and exothermic process in the temperature range of 25-76 °C.

Emerging pollutants (EPs), also known as micropollutants, have been a major issue for the global population in recent years as a result of the potential threats they bring to the environment and human health. Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), antibiotics, and hormones that are used in great demand for health and cosmetic purposes have rapidly culminated in the emergence of environmental pollutants. EPs impact the environment in a variety of ways. EPs originate from animal or human sources, either directly discharged into waterbodies or slowly leached via soils. As a result, water quality will deteriorate, drinking water sources will be contaminated, and health issues will arise. Since drinking water treatment plants rely on water resources, the prevalence of this contamination in aquatic environments, particularly surface water, is a severe problem. The review looks into several related issues on EPs in water environment, including methods in removing EPs. Despite its benefits and downsides, the EPs treatment processes comprise several approaches such as physico-chemical, biological, and advanced oxidation processes. Nonetheless, one of the membrane-based filtration methods, ultrafiltration, is considered as one of the technologies that promises the best micropollutant removal in water. With interesting properties including a moderate operating manner and great selectivity, this treatment approach is more popular than conventional ones. This study presents a comprehensive summary of EP’s existence in the environment, its toxicological consequences on health, and potential removal and treatment strategies.

With the growing population and rapid industrial development of the world, various pollutantsexplicitly known as emerging pollutants (EPs) and including micro and nanoplastics, pharmaceuticals, hazardous dyes, steroid estrogen, and organic pollutantscontinue to enter into the environment and water sources. These EPs cause a variety of side effects and diseases, such as cancer, neurotoxic and mutagenic effects, stomach cramps, intestinal disorders, loss of peripheral vision, deteriorated movement coordination, and weakened muscles, even in low concentrations. The presence of EPs in the environment/water sources affects humans and animals and disturbs ecological integrity. Therefore, removing these EPs from the environment with a smart, greener, and environmentally competent technology has become a meaningful goal. Most of the EPs are stable in the media, and their removal is a considerable scientific challenge. Different treatment methods, like adsorption and degradation processes, have been used to eliminate these pollutants. Enzyme-mediated approaches hold immense prospects in environmental cleanup and have been keenly explored recently. Many efforts have been made to apply biocatalytic-based materials, like laccases and peroxidases, as unique tools alongside a powerful oxidation approach for the degradation and treatment of EPs. These enzymes' unique properties in terms of excellent selectivity and exclusive catalytic features make them robust candidates for biocatalytic treatment. This work spotlights the biocatalytic properties and application of oxidoreductases to remove EPs. The challenges, conclusive remarks, and standpoints for robust biocatalysts are also given.
