Internet of Things (IoT) devices, refer to physical devices that are connected to the internet and can communicate with other devices and systems. While IoT devices offer a wide range of benefits, such as increased efficiency, automation, and connectivity, they also have some key challenges such as Cost, privacy, Security concern energy consumption and the likes. Thus, an IoT Devices Battery Life Energy Management Scheme is proposed. The proposed IoT Scheme tries to reduce the energy consumption of IoT devices, thereby extending their battery life and reducing their environmental impact as energy/power consumption. This scheme includes an algorithm and four programs developed using Python programming language to minimize energy consumption. The first program reduces the amount of data transmitted and uses the most efficient transmission protocol possible. The second program uses sleep mode to put the device to sleep when not needed. The third program optimizes power usage by turning off unused sensors or modules and using the lowest possible power mode. The fourth program uses low-power components designed for low power consumption. These programs can be easily integrated into existing IoT systems and customized for different IoT applications. The proposed scheme is a comprehensive approach to energy management for IoT devices that significantly improve their efficiency and reduce their impact while extending the battery life respectively.

In order to provide solution to limited network resources in heterogeneous wireless networks supporting different applications with distinct quality of service (QoS) requirements, call admission control (CAC) schemes are implemented. This work is aimed at investigating three mostpopular CAC schemes employedin mobile worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX), namely dynamic CAC with bandwidth reservation (DCACBR), QoS-aware CAC (QoSACAC), and QoS guaranteed CAC (QoSGCAC) to identify their shortfalls which will form the focus of future research. A general platform is developed and simulated. The simulation was based on the following KPIs: blocking rate, dropping rate, and throughput for new and handoff connections. Simulation results for new connection shows that QoSGCAC outperforms scheme DCACBR and QoSACAC, having 26.9% and 8.56% improvements in throughput and 63.11% and 24.17% in blocking rate respectively. For handoff connection, QoSACAC showed the best performance having 13.25% and 47.84% improvements in throughput and 6.8% and 49.3% in blocking rate as compared to the DCACBR and QoSGCAC, respectively. Result analysis shows that QoSACAC has the best performance however, it admits new connections and degrade existing connections but failed to consider the delay-intolerant service classes. It is recommended that the QoSACAC be further improved.

CCSDS 131.2-B-1 Serial Concatenated Convolutional Turbo Decoder Architecture for Efficient FPGA Implementation

Most of the turbo encoding schemes at standards are parallel-based, so different architectures for efficient implementation are common in the literature. However, a serial turbo decoder is not that common. This scheme is used in CCSDS 131.2-B-1 standard, which is attracting much of attention recently due to its higher performance for satellite communications. In this paper, an efficient architecture for the decoder is proposed and analyzed. It is intended to show an architecture that can be modeled in a circuit description language (such as VHDL and Verilog) in such a way that it can be easily implemented on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). This work describes in detail this architecture explaining the encoding operations that are performed at the transmitter and then, how to undo them at the receiver. The proposed algorithm works by using independent components to divide the tasks and to obtain a pipeline architecture to improve the efficiency. The results of simulating and implementing the proposed architecture on a Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC ZCU28DR board with XCZU28DR-2FFVG1517E RFSoC are shown. The final results presented demonstrate how the hardware operations give equivalent results to the software simulation and do not consume board resources aggressively as usually the turbodecoder does.
