A comprehensive study of techniques utilized for structural health monitoring of oil and gas pipelines

Vinamra Bhushan Sharma,
Saurabh Tewari,
Susham Biswas
et al.

Abstract: An extensive network of pipelines is extensively employed worldwide to carry oil and gas fluids over millions of kilometers. The pipeline channel was constructed to resist environmental dynamic loading conditions to provide safe and reliable oil and gas fluids transportation from the production well sites to depot stations installed at sea coastlines. However, pipeline infrastructure damages such as fractures, cracks, leakages, etc., are significant sources of economic losses in pipeline operations. Moreover, … Show more

“…where φ is the angle between the measured pipe and the horizontal plane. If φ , the mass of the robot and the acceleration of gravity are 30 • , 2.5 kg and 10 m s − 2 , respectively, the F f equals to 12.85 N according to equation (1) and is less than the design index F T ≥ 30N in table 1. Therefore, it is necessary to fuse the driving motors to provide sufficient driving force for the pipeline robot.…”

“…Compared with ordinary storage tanks, AE instruments designed for use in refined oil storage tanks must meet extremely strict requirements in terms of their explosion-proof performance. Only a few papers have proposed safety levels and evaluation methods for the acoustic emission detection of oil tanks' defects, but there are few studies on how to carry out safety detection in oil tanks [6][7][8]. The working principle of an explosion-proof AE instrument is introduced in this paper.…”
