A comprehensive solution for application‐level adaptation

Abstract: Driven by the emergence of mobile and pervasive computing there is a growing demand for context-aware software systems that can dynamically adapt to their run-time environment. We present the results of project MADAM which has delivered a comprehensive solution for the development and operation of context-aware, self-adaptive applications. The main contributions of MADAM are (a) a sophisticated middleware that supports the dynamic adaptation of component-based applications, and (b) an innovative model-driven d… Show more

“…One of the unique features of MUSIC is that a number of different adaptation mechanisms are supported, all included in a single adaptation framework, including parameter setting, component replacement and redeployment (Floch et al, 2006;Geihs et al, 2009a), and service rebinding .…”

“…Therefore, the goal of planning can be changed to keeping the system at the most desirable state. In such cases, a utility which is a quantitative value representing the desirability of the current system variant in the current context is de¯ned for the system [73]. This utility is approximated by a utility function over the properties of the system and the system context.…”

“…In [7], the authors present the results of project MADAM that has delivered a comprehensive solution for the development and operation of context-aware, self-adaptive applications. The main contributions of this work are (a) a sophisticated middleware that supports the dynamic adaptation of component-based applications, and (b) an innovative model-driven development methodology based on abstract adaptation models and corresponding model-tocode transformations.…”
