Abstract-Energy limitations have become fundamental challenge for designing wireless sensor networks. Network lifetime represent the most important and interested metric. Several attempts have been made for efficient utilization of energy in routing techniques. This paper proposes an energy efficient routing technique for maximizing the networks lifetime called swarm intelligence routing. This is achieved by using ant colony algorithm (ACO) and artificial immune system (AIS). AIS is used for solving packet LOOP problem and to control route direction. While ACO algorithm is used for determining optimum route for sending data packets. The proposed routing technique seeks for determining the optimum route from nodes towards base station so that energy exhaustion is balanced and lifetime is maximized. Proposed routing technique is compared with Dijkstra routing method. Results show significant increase in network lifetime of about 1.2567.

A wireless sensor network (WSN) consists of sensor nodes and wireless communication. Sensor nodes usually have the features such as tiny size, low cost, low power consumption. They are used for environmental monitoring and transmit sensing data (temperature, humidity, pressure and so on) to sink through wireless networking. To protect sensing data's confidentiality and integrity has presented an intrusion detection system called patrol intrusion detection system (PIDS), which designate a fraction of sensor nodes as roaming patrol nodes to detect malicious sensor nodes. However, those patrol nodes' battery energy will consume rapidly and thus makes the whole WSN to have reduced lifetime. In this paper, the system will collect ambient data and utilize a revised artificial bee colony algorithm to find a low power consumption path for transmitting attack feature packets in PIDS in order to extend the lifetime of a WSN.

Abstract. Wireless Sensor Network has always captivated researchers to broaden up the field by critically evaluating and realizing its capabilities in various application areas. Conceiving an idea of implementing wireless sensor network has shown many challenges i.e. node deployment, data clustering, data aggregation, energy efficiency, lifetime improvement, etc. This paper deals with an important aspect i.e. clustering. In this paper a new clustering approach has been proposed that combines the functionality of two popular approaches i.e. Voronoi diagrams and Ant Systems. The simulations are performed in QualNet version 6.1 with IEEE 802.15.4 at the MAC and Physical layers. The proposed algorithm shows promising results as compare to that of AODV and OSPFv2 in terms of energy efficiency and overall performance.
