A comprehensive review: Segmentation of MRI images-brain tumor

Abstract: Segmentation of tumors in human brain aims to classify different abnormal tissues (necrotic core, edema, active cells) from normal tissues (cerebrospinal fluid, gray matter, white matter) of the brain. In existence, detection of abnormal tissues is easy for studying brain tumor, but reproducibility, characterization of abnormalities and accuracy are complicated in the process of segmentation. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based segmentation of tumors in brain images is more enhancing and attracting in c… Show more

“…In recent years, brain diseases have become one of the most important diseases that endanger the health of human beings. The segmentation of brain lesions from brain images can be a valuable reference for the follow-up treatment of patients [1]. In the diagnosis of brain diseases, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is the most commonly used imaging modality.…”

“…Medical imageprocessing methods, used for fully automatic segmentation, are classified into four main categories. 1,2 The first category includes the threshold-based techniques, such as Otsu, Kapur and adaptive thresholding. 3 The second category covers region-based techniques, such as region growing 4 and watershed.…”
